Bacteria in dental plaque are a major cause of dental pathology. Bacteria attach to the surface of the tooth and form a biofilm, at the same time it matures and becomes increasingly cariogenic. Dental plaque causes carious lesions as well as gum problems. For this reason, it is important to remove dental plaque regularly and thoroughly. We suggest removing soft dental plaque 2x a day using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The use of dental floss or interdental brushes is also recommended once a day, and we can additionally use mouthwashes that should not contain alcohol. When brushing, we must be especially careful to thoroughly clean all tooth surfaces, especially those on the border with the gums. Several brushing techniques are effective, but we recommend Bass's circular motion technique. With all this, we do not forget to regularly remove hard dental plaque from the dentist twice a year, as this ensures better gum health and easier maintenance of personal oral hygiene.
